Totaling 15,000 acres, with only approximately 160 acres planted, the Rockpile AVA established in 2002 is a truly spectacular and rugged Sonoma County appellation of steep mountain slopes falling off into the the blue waters of Lake Sonoma. This is a place of ultra-premium hillside fruit where high elevation, full days of sun with moderate temperatures, coastal breezes and well drained rocky soils create a constant state of tension. The resulting clusters of small berries produce an intensity of fruit and flavors like nowhere else in the world. Our Zinfandel block with vines aligned east to west sits at upper part of the northeast facing Pritchett Peaks Vineyard. This steeply sloped vineyard, farmed by the Mauritson brothers, represents the best qualities of the Rockpile AVA and we are deeply honored to be able to produce a vineyard designate Pritchett Peaks Zinfandel.
