A ranch of ancient old vine Zinfandel dating back to the 1880's situated in the recently approved Kelsey Bench-Lake County AVA. These head trained vines sit 1455' above sea level east and north of the Mayacama mountains and along the west-northwestern shores of Clear Lake, considered to be North America's oldest lake. Originally a pyroclastic lava flow, the bench is a transition between the ancient volcanic Mayacamas mountains to the west and south and the alluvial flood plain. The evolving watershed of Kelsey Bench has eroded the fertile blocks of clay and loam soils resulting in swaths of gravel deposits and well-drained soils. It is from these head trained old vines and complex soils that we produce our Burton Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel.
